I'd say channeling the ghost of Clive Thomas, but he's still alive.

Where I spent most of my time refereeing, all games except first grade had a strict 'no time added on' instruction.

With that instruction it made these exceptionally simple. Ball in midair towards goal? Oh well, too bad!!

Very weird. He wouldn't have been looking down at his watch with the ball bouncing round the penalty one would hope. So, guess he must have felt the 45 minute vibration and decided to blow. What would an assesor say?

Hi
Great example of why the timing of the game needs to be changed. For me the game should end when the ball goes dead aka rugby. Also timing could easily be controlled by the 4th official at this level. Time off and on at the instruction of the referee. Never any disputes in rugby about timing and there could be 10 minutes of added time and no one even knows as the clock is stopped for injuries. substitutions, referee talking to players etc. Once it reaches 80 minutes players know that the game is over the next time the ball goes out of play that is not a penalty.
