Hi
Yep penalty for me.
In the ref's defence
1. Does it look like Blue jumped into Red before the contact
2. Does it look like Red was trying to avoid Red?
3. Was the fall too dramatic and seen as looking for a pen
4. Is there history there? Some PL players "divers" that I can think off would need to be poleaxed before they get a pen.
As a very young player I recall a similar penalty in an important game that I was involved in. I made no effort to avoid / go around the defender in the exact same position and the ref gave it.

Ben Williams (referee) in a post-match interview admitted he got this and another penalty call wrong. He explained that he thought it was more the attacker running into the defender (credit to him for not penalising if that's what he saw, given that even at this level too many referees think that an attacker running into a stationary defender is a free kick for the attacker!)

Not the worst incident missed from the weekend though:

Both the elbow and the headbutt were missed. Inexplicable, the player committing the headbutt was cautioned (either it was a 'no idea what happened but I know he did something' card, or cautioned for something in the melee afterwards), and the player throwing the elbow got off.

However, the elbow still resulted in a 2 week suspension, and the headbutt is facing the judiciary today.

Raises the question though - what were the other 3 officials doing???

Muscat is a c ock, total WUM, a lot will struggle to see anything after some of the sludge tackles he's handed out over the years...

Wrong Muscat. This is Manny Muscat.
But you're right - he's a disgrace and should have been banned from the game. He's a thug, and a coward. He was no different when he came to Australia.
He's now coach, and frustratingly he's doing really well at it - but he still spends 90 min per match screaming at the referee. And of course nothing ever happens.

Incidentally, Manny Muscat has been caught elbowing people a number of times in the past.
